Last surviving member of SHS’s first football team dies

Dominick Bruno

BRUNO Dominick Bruno, of Slidell, LA on Saturday, March 14, 2009. Beloved Husband of late Melba “Putty” Bruno. Father of Dominick J. Bruno(Diann) and Melvin J. “Butch” Bruno. Brother of Cusimano Bruno and Vivian B. Fail. Also survived by 4 grandchildren, 5 great grandchildren and 2 great great grandchildren. Special thanks to Carol Ann, his niece, and Trinity Rehabilitation for their special care. Age 93 years. A native of Sicily, Italy and long time resident of Slidell. He was a parishioner of Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church for over 80 years and a member of the Knights of Columbus. He was a graduate of Slidell High, on it’s first football team and it’s first All State member, of which he was the last surviving member of the team. Relatives and friends of the family are invited to attend the Funeral Mass at HONAKER FUNERAL HOME, 1751 GAUSE Blvd. WEST (IN FOREST LAWN CEMETERY), Slidell, LA on Tuesday, March 17, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. Interment in FOREST LAWN CEMETERY. Visitation on Tuesday after 10:00 A.M. until funeral time. Donations to Slidell Hospice, in lieu of flowers. Arrangements by Honaker Funeral Home, Inc., Slidell, LA.
