Rodney McK is off to Iraq

Posted in class of 1982, class of 82, louisiana, reunions, slidell by 543210cpp on the February 28, 2009

President Obama said last Friday he plans to withdraw most U.S. troops from Iraq by the end of August 2010.

In the meantime, our classmate, Rodney McKelroy, is about to be shipped to Iraq for a ONE YEAR TOUR OF DUTY. (Aren’t we a little old for this? I’m just sayin’.)

He will leave shortly for two weeks of training in Kansas, then it’s off to Iraq – for a YEAR.

I know Rodney would appreciate a few well wishes from his former classmates right about now. His email is: Tabasco_popcorn@yahoo.com

Drop him a line & send him your best. And remember to keep him and all our troops in your prayers until ALL of them are safely home.

SHS Baseball needs your help!

82-baseball2

I hope all of you (especially the baseball players from our class) will take a moment to read the letter posted below & consider making a donation to the cause.

Consider this: This coming Tuesday, we will witness history as a black man is sworn in as President of the United States. There is someone from our class who knows a little bit of such things. Many of you may not know that our very own Sam St. Phard was the very first black Student Council President in Slidell High’s history. So, I guess you could say that long before the US has Barak, we had Sam! I think that’s something of which our class can be proud!

So Tuesday, as we bear witness to history in the making, I’m hoping you’ll consider making a donation to the Baseball boosters, maybe in Sam’s name even, and harken back on that historic event in our own school’s history.

Here is the letter:

Dear SHS Friends:
Slidell High School baseball recently won a grant providing lights for the baseball field.
The grant, through major league baseball, covers expenses to purchase the lights and
poles. Installation of the lights is not covered by the grant. The installation costs are
extensive. The Slidell Baseball Booster Club has always raised money to assist the
program and facilities with various uniform needs, field maintenance, facility upgrades
and equipment. The expenses for installation of the lights far out weigh any cost needs
presented in the past.
We need your help to insure that the Slidell High School baseball
field shines bright this season and into the future.

This project is changing history. This is Slidell High School’s 100th year and lighting the
baseball field is a great way start another century of excellence. We hope that you will
help us make history and be a part of Slidell Baseball for years to come.

Thank you for your time and consideration in this project and we hope that you
will help us bring light to Slidell Tiger Baseball.

Yours respectfully,
George Herdliska

Coaches Scramble

So it’s not enough that all our schedules are completely off-kilter because of stupid Gustav and perhaps even Ike, no that wasn’t enough. Two loosers by the names of Michael West & Dylan Farmer, with two much free time on their hands (one of whom is a 2007 SHS graduate, no less) ALLEGEDLY thought it would be fun to burn the press box down early Monday morning, sending football coaches at more than two schools as well as reunion celebration planners scrambling to make alternative plans for Friday night’s game between Slidell & Salmen (always a big draw) and the 100th anniversary celebration (sure to draw a huge crowd.)

I have a theory about these two clowns. If they’d paid more attention in math class while they were in high school, they might, right now, be successfully drinking their way through LSU instead of trying to burn down the high school.

In spite of all the extra work, to say nothing of the additional expenses these two idiots have now caused, there is some justice, in that, those of us who did pay attention in math class all those years ago, will tonight sleep comfortably in our beds and these two are now on the “three hots and a cot” plan! Enjoy your new accommodations, gentlemen!

At some point, the big game will be played and the anniversary celebrations will take place and these two morons will be held up as text book examples of what becomes of those who don’t pay attention in class.
